Ashcrow Landscape Design, one of the leading green landscape design firms in Southern California, has opened an invitation for internships for our Spring/Summer 2010 year.
Our company has provided landscape architecture and architecture services for residential, commercial and public spaces for over ten years. Some of our upcoming projects are:
LA Garden Show — Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden: ALD has been named a featured designer in this year’s festival, the theme of which is “Living Green”. We will be designing, purchasing, constructing, and installing a garden which will be viewed by the public as well as covered by major media outlets all over Southern California. The installation of the design will take place in mid-April, with the show starting April 27 for media, and May 1-3 for the public. We will be needing volunteers to assist this installation process.
Animal Acres in Acton California: An animal sanctuary for abused farm animals. We will be providing a comprehensive tree design to help alleviate heat, air and noise pollution and finding better strategies to deal with the animal waste. This is a pro bono project and we will be designing, arranging donated landscape material and organizing volunteer laborers (as well as getting our hands dirty too!). This project will take place in May.
Various residential projects: ALD’s vision of drought tolerant, native plant designs has been the talk of the industry and has been covered in HGTV as well as various television and radio programs. Interns will be a part of the irrigation, plant design, ordering, and hardscape design drafting as well as the ordering process.
In addition, our work is being covered in a documentary series about the firm and our design process, so those of you interested in assisting in the video production are encouraged to apply… there is also a chance interns might find themselves in the documentary!
Interns should be skilled in the following software: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD. Our office uses Vectorworks primarily as our design medium, which you can get a for free from http://student.myvectorworks.com/ Potential interns should be familiarize themselves with this operating platform if they’d like to learn some of the firm’s design techniques.
Applicants should submit: A link to an online version of your portfolio, or a .PDF file with work samples, a schedule of time you’re available, and a resume. Since we are aware that your course load can be demanding, we would like to learn about your free time so we can organize special projects for you to perform.
